“Second Annual Walk For Hope and Remembrance A Splashing Success!”
Despite the wet weather, over 70 people attended Share Southern Vermont’s second annual Walk for Hope and Remembrance on Saturday, May 8th, 2010 at the Toonerville Trail in Springfield, Vermont. The annual Share walk provides families who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or death of an infant with an opportunity for their children to be openly acknowledged and remembered amongst family, friends and other bereaved families.
When Cara Tyrrell, founding director of Share Southern Vermont, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support, stepped to the microphone the skies opened. With a smile on her face she said, “The clouds are full and so are our hearts.” Each person in attendance had a reason to be there, a baby to remember. This year’s memorial was brief, concluding with a song by Vermont artist Karen Mcfeeters. Paul Ippolito performed Ila’s Moon with his wife, Norma, as backup. One hundred-twenty-one honored babies’ names were read this year.
Walkers wore pale yellow event t-shirts, some personalized with special commemorations of their loss. The back hosted a lavender butterfly release design with the message: Every Life, No Matter How Fragile Or Brief, Forever Changes The World. After the ceremony, participants followed a three-mile walk along the trail, stopping at the checkpoint for a homemade twinkies! The walk ended back in the open green where families connected and enjoyed a complimentary lunch, donated by local businesses.
